When Liz Feeney joined Systems Engineering nearly two years ago, they weren't simply looking for their next opportunity. They were looking for a place where they could grow, continue learning, and build a long-term career.

Liz's interest in IT developed naturally through hands-on problem solving and a desire to better understand how technology works. What began as curiosity quickly grew into a passion.

"The more I learned, the deeper I wanted to go," Liz said.

As they explored opportunities to grow their skills and career, Systems Engineering stood out. "I wanted a place where I could continue learning and growing. I had my heart set on SE."

Today, Liz serves as a Help Desk Team Lead, a role that blends technical expertise, leadership, and process improvement. They spend their days supporting Help Desk technicians in resolving complex issues, approving escalations, handling administrative responsibilities, and working on larger projects designed to improve team efficiency. Whether it's optimizing processes or managing SharePoint permissions, no two days are exactly alike.

Stepping into a leadership role was both exciting and intimidating. "I was definitely a little nervous at first," Liz shared. "There were new workflows to learn, new responsibilities, and opportunities to work with different departments."

One of the biggest lessons they've learned throughout that journey has been trusting their instincts. "Trusting my gut has been huge. As I've gained experience, I've learned to trust what I know while still being open to learning from others."

When asked what they enjoy most about their role, the answer is simple: the people. "The best part is working with our clients and working with the team," they said.

As a leader, Liz enjoys building relationships with both clients and technicians, helping people solve problems while creating an environment where team members feel comfortable asking questions and seeking support. They believe a strong team starts with trust, communication, and approachability. That mindset reflects the culture they see throughout Systems Engineering, "It's a supportive environment where everyone is willing to help each other grow."

Even on the busiest days, collaboration remains constant. Through regular communication and a willingness to share knowledge, teams work together to ensure both employees and clients have the support they need.

Outside of their Help Desk responsibilities, Liz is also an active member of Systems Engineering's Community Impact Committee. Their interest in community involvement stems from previous nonprofit work and a longstanding passion for giving back, "Community involvement has always been important to me."

Over the years, they've participated in a variety of initiatives, including distributing phones to people in need, donating nonperishable food items to local organizations with United Way's United We Can initiative, and supporting holiday giving programs such as Sweetser's Christmas programs. Liz said, "It's important to know you're making a difference."

For Liz, those experiences reinforce one of the things they value most about Systems Engineering: a culture that cares about helping people both inside and outside the workplace.

Although they've been with SE for less than two years, Liz says they have no plans to leave, "I've found a place where I can build my career."

When reflecting on their accomplishments, they point less to a specific title or milestone and more to their personal and professional growth. "The knowledge I've gained here has been more than at any other company I've worked for."

They're also proud of the work they've done to improve efficiencies across the organization, particularly projects involving SharePoint processes and permissions management.

For anyone considering a career in technology, Liz offers simple but powerful advice: "Be confident in what you know and open about what you don't." They believe self-awareness, honesty, and a willingness to learn are critical to success. "We all have strengths. Be honest about mistakes, ask questions, and don't be afraid to learn from others."

Outside of work, Liz enjoys cross-stitching, crocheting, and attending musicals. They're an avid reader and can often be found with a book whenever they have downtime.
