Microsoft has recently announced the release of Windows 11, its first major operating system (OS) in six years. On October 5, 2021, the modern OS will officially launch, allowing millions of end-users to upgrade to the modern system. While many of us are eager to upgrade and explore the latest technologies, being an early adopter comes with risks. In the case of Windows 11, there are some caveats, particularly around hardware and application compatibility.
Upon initial release of an OS, our standard approach is not to deploy new systems as there will likely be stability issues. For this reason, we strongly recommend your organization delays upgrading to Windows 11 until after Microsoft releases its feature updates slated for 1H of 2022. Feature updates deliver new features and functionality creating a more reliable system.
As with any major updates and before approving for client adoption, Systems Engineering runs through a series of testing to ensure new releases are compatible with our systems and services.
Our engineers are currently testing Windows 11 and advise there is no rush to upgrade.
If you are on a supported OS including Windows 8 or 10, there is no immediate need to upgrade. Current OSs are stable, secure, and fully supported by Microsoft. If you are running an unsupported OS, Windows 7 for example, there is an urgency to upgrade due to security risks. Please contact us immediately to evaluate your options.
If you receive a notification pop up on your computer screen requesting you upgrade to Windows 11, please ignore it. While we await the release of Microsoft Windows 11 feature updates, we advise staying with your supported OS until further notice. Additionally, we recommend working with your Account Manager to plan your move to Windows 11. A measured transition will ensure that your applications and workstations are compatible with the new OS and that your organization is ready for the change.
In the coming months, we will communicate additional information regarding Windows 11. In the meantime, if you have questions about this notice, email us at info@systemsengineering.com or call 888.624.6737. Clients, please reach out to your Account Manager.
