At Systems Engineering, employees are our number one resource. Our success depends on our dedicated and skilled staff who share our values and contribute to our vision. SE Spotlight gives a brief but revealing look at one of our valuable members.
Name: Peter Koehling
Department: Network Operations Center
Title: Engineer
How long have you been at SE? Six months.
SE: What do you do at Systems Engineering (SE)?
Peter: I am part of the SE Network Operations Center (NOC) focused on resolving client issues. I work on different server operating systems, applications, server roles and products with clients. It is challenging work as each client environment is unique to them and their business. Being an engineer at SE requires us to be agile, not only with our skills but with how we work. I may be able to do what I need to from the office one day and then out in the field replacing a battery on a UPS tomorrow. I have found that I really enjoy working in and learning about different client environments.
SE: What does a typical day on the NOC Engineering team look like for you?
Peter: Typically, I receive a ticket from the core incident queue. I gather all the information I can about the incident, then contact the client to verify the information I have and collect additional information. I prefer to communicate by phone to ensure I have a clear understanding of what it is they want me to accomplish. Once I have all the information I need, I’ll then take care of the issue. Finally, I’ll follow back up with the client to ensure they are satisfied. By the end of the day, my goal is to ensure all of my assigned tickets have been completed or updated with clear instructions on next steps to pick up where it was left off.
SE: Tell us more about yourself outside of work.
Peter: I enjoy growing plants and trees. I have a modest garden that I’m always trying to learn more tips and tricks to improve on. Last year, I had such an overabundance of vegetables that I was able to supply my neighbors with the surplus. I also like to be an active member in my community by investing in neighborhood relationships. Most of my neighbors are older and it’s nice to be available to help them out when needed. In addition, I enjoy all things computers: building computers, studying technology, playing on computers and even watching shows about computers. Information technology is not only my career, it’s my hobby.
